Food Allergies In Intervale Children

Food Allergies In Intervale Children The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology estimates that around eight percent of U.S. kids are affected by food allergies.

Eight foods account for most children’s food allergies in Chatham: eggs, fish, milk, peanuts, shellfish, soy, nuts, and wheat. Strawberries and tomatoes can also cause food allergies in young Intervale kids, though generally not in adults.

Type and severity of allergy symptoms in Chatham kids vary, but may show up as itchy eyes, nose or throat, trouble breathing, gastrointestinal upset, or hives.

If you suspect your child may have a food allergy, keep a food journal of everything he or she eats (including beverages) for a week to show your Jackson pediatrician. To confirm the diagnosis, your doctor may scratch the skin with a small amount of an allergen to observe the reaction.

Safest Cars For Intervale Families

Hello Intervale parents! Welcome to my Chatham children’s health blog. I am an advocate for improved health and safety for Intervale kids. I like lists, they are short and to-the-point. Every once in a while I run across a ‘Top Five’ or ‘Top Ten’ article such as: ‘The Ten Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Intervale,’ ‘The Top Five Nutritional Kids Foods,’ or ‘The Five Best Family Attractions in the Chatham Area.’

I recently read an article on Forbes.com that lists the safest cars of the year1. Here are three that caught my eye with my comments thrown in:

1) The Tesla Model S four-door electric sedan. (I’ve never heard of this car but the makers claim it will go ’300 zero-emission miles on one charge.’1 That’s a lot of trips to your closest Intervale grocery store with no adverse environmental impact!)
2) BMW Five Series. (This isn’t your ordinary Intervale kid hauler but it sure is pretty.)
3) Chevrolet Cruze. (This small sedan has the most budget-friendly MSRP of $16,275.)

As Chatham parents, our children’s’ health and safety should be our top priority. When it comes time to buy a new family car in Intervale, remember to check the safety ratings.

Chatham parents: do you know what video games your kids are playing? If you haven’t looked through their games for a while, it’s probably time that you did. While playing rock band or sports games can be fun and entertaining, other games can be wrongly influencing your child with graphic violence and course language.

Some Jackson parents are unaware that many games have become more questionable when it comes to content. Many companies that sell violent games target their marketing at younger boys even though mature ratings specify seventeen and up. As with most forms of entertainment, the video game industry has continued down a slide of immorality and vulgarity.

Many Chatham kids rationalize: ‘Oh, they don’t affect me,’ or, ‘It’s just a shooting game,’ or ‘I’m only killing zombies,’ or, ‘I can turn the blood off.’

I believe that many Chatham kids are being desensitized by very graphic portrayals of violence and criminal behavior. Especially if they play hours on end.

Video games with the mature rating have become as bad or worse then R rated films. It is up to Jackson parents to monitor their children’s game purchases and decide what is and what isn’t allowed.

If your son or daughter wants to play questionable games, discuss the content and explain why you object. Show concern for your kids by monitoring their games and limiting their playing time. Remember that video games, like other leisurely pastimes, can interfere with school.

I know some Jackson parents who have hidden the gaming controllers because their child kept sneaking improper games into the house.

Flu Shot: Respiratory infections are dangerous for Intervale children with asthma. The flu shot lowers the risk of catching a bug and also helps lessen complications for those who do get the flu.

Family Meal Time in Jackson

Jackson parents want to make sure that their kids spend time doing things that will help them be healthy and successful. Because of this, juggling the family schedule and prioritizing activities are a major part of parenting in the Jackson, Intervale, and Bartlett areas.
